Dutch Babies, Fat Babies, and...

Dutch Babies... most of us probably know what these are. We call them German Pancakes at our house and they're our Sunday morning tradition for breakfast. You know the ones. As they bake in the oven, the sides travel up and over the pan in a light and fluffy goodness. Growing up, we always used lemon juice and powdered sugar to coat them; now, John, my somewhat picky husband, has convinced us all that syrup is a better option.

Fat Babies... these may not be as familiar to many of you. They certainly weren't to me until we visited my sister Hannah's house over Christmas. She has a Fat Baby collection... 8 to be exact. They're tucked away in boxes in her closet. She brings two out at a time. The newest edition of Fat Babies are always on her Birthday and Christmas lists. Boots... Ariat is the brand, Fat Baby is the style.

Boots were on my Christmas list. I was thinking of more the soft, Ugg style, type boot. My mom bought me a pair. Unfortunately, I looked like I belonged in the circus wearing them.
I returned them. And bought Fat Babies. While I keep trying to defend the fact that they aren't cowboy boots, they are sold at Coastal. They've been outlawed by the American Rodeo Association, but that's really my only recourse.

(these aren't mine...just an image I found)

I wore them for the first time yesterday. While I was taking Amaya to school, she told me that my 'Dutch Babies' were cute. I corrected her... a little too pridefully, saying "They're called FAT Babies, honey." (who came up with this name, anyway!)

Tennyson, who can only stand about two seconds of silence at any given time, had to pipe in. "I like your Fat Boobies, Mom." She really had no intention of being funny, but I busted up. So did Amaya.

"Honey, they're Fat BABIES, not boobies."

Tennyson, wearing her own set of actual cowboy boots responded, "Mom, yours are Fat Babies. Mine are Fat Boobies."

See what you've started, Hannah!
